Melanie has been active in the field of education since 1985 and was named Teacher of the Year in 1989. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in education from Colorado State University and a Masters Degree from the University of Northern Colorado.

In 1992, Melanie turned her considerable talents to the business world. She formed a training company named Higher Ground, Inc. that provides human resource development service through workshops and seminars. Her clients have included Motorola, American Express, US West, Apple Computer and Hewlett-Packard.

In July of 1999 Melanie earned the National Speakers Association's Certified Speaking Professional (CSP) designation. Less than 7% of the 5,000 speakers who belong to the National Association hold this designation.

Melanie's effectiveness as a speaker stems from the rapport she establishes with participants and her exceptional capability to create positive group interaction and successful learning experiences.
